Scope

Operosa was founded by Finnish mezzo soprano Katherine Haataja to promote young opera and classical music talent.

Purpose & Aim

Operosa activities are created with the purpose of using modern interpretation to bring classical masterpieces as well as contemporary works to wider and younger audiences.

The aim of Operosa is to focus on repertoire ideally suited for young opera singers while working with leading international guest artistic directors and showcasing opera as a modern form of art and entertainment.

Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival

The annual summer festival features exciting international co-productions and guest performances as well as opera productions and concerts, created and performed by emerging talent and renowned professionals. In 2023 the festival celebrated 10 years in Montenegro and it has been awarded the EFFE label of Remarkable European Festivals since 2015. The combination of rich cultural heritage, the stunning fortress venues, with breathtaking sea views, and the unique performances of international talent attract audiences and media from all over the world.

History

The historical Old Town and surrounding fortresses in Herceg Novi on the Adriatic coast are home to the Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival. A wealth of Operosa events have been held over the years in Montenegro. Venues since 2007 have also included the Evxinograd castle grounds in Varna and the Ivan Vazov National Theater in Sofia in Bulgaria, the Dom Omladine theater and the Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment in Belgrade in Serbia, and touring Operosa opera productions have reached audiences in over 30 remote towns across the Balkan region.

Operosa Academia

Operosa Academia is a program for young artists and professionals to gain important direction in their careers within the performing arts.
